Can I talk about the visuals of this awesome book? My! Mr Wole Fanegan did an outstanding job. The design, colour, font, and the use of different colours to separate the chapters… all made the book appealing to read.

A quick run of the chapters already suggested that I am reading this book times over because I like stories that are captivating and to follow through the beautiful story of Alex and Sharon as they journey in commitments into their marriage made this book an authentic love story to learn from

The book presents tested, proven principles backed by years of practical wisdom. Ayo boldly addresses premarital sex, speaking as both a faith and thought leader. He highlights the influence of family origin stories and calls out the pretense often seen in engagement phases. He also explores the complexities of parental consent and the importance of community support—topics sure to spark debate. Yet, he navigates them with subtlety while staying true to his convictions.

His take? The engagement phase is where convictions must be tested. His submission: “Whatever the discoveries at this phase, we can use them as raw materials to build a stable relationship towards a future home.”

One of my favorite parts is the affirmations that end each chapter. As a mental health advocate, I deeply appreciate the power of words—these affirmations are a clincher for me.

That said, I personally cannot relate to the “Help! I’m Getting Married!” chapter. Sharon’s stress over opinions on the wedding? Not me—no one saw my outfit until that morning! Lol.

Full disclosure: I almost knew what this chapter would say because Ayo Daniels was part of my pre-wedding party. The planning template he shared then? Still gold.

He also doesn’t shy away from the civil vs. ‘white’ wedding debate—his take may surprise you. And yes, PAD (as we fondly call him) even gives first-night tips! He subtly advises slowing down in the honeymoon phase—pace yourselves to do the do.

The last two chapters focus on navigating early marriage conflicts and embracing them as growth opportunities. In all, Beyond Romance proves that even amidst conflicting marital narratives, if you are willing, your story can be different. These are not just religious clichés—these tips will work for anyone preparing for marriage.

Need I add? PAD officiated my wedding 18 years ago. What a way to celebrate this milestone—reading this book and seeing that the wisdom he shared with me back then is still here. My favorite part? How Alex and Sharon’s story is woven into every lesson.

I am getting married! details the roles of the man, the wife, and God in the home, alongside key wedding preparations. The wedding ceremony gives practical advice on ensuring a peaceful and successful event.

Honey-what? discusses sex in marriage, advocating for learning, communication, and understanding. Let the music play on addresses navigating the early years of marriage with patience, love, and respect. Finally, Married forever presents three key principles from God’s word that guarantee a happily-ever-after marriage.
